Blackwork unites many styles and motifs, including lettering, linework and illustrative designs. In Blackwork contrast is key. The negative spaces are just as important as the density of black.
Blackwork is particularly well-suited for cover-ups and tattoos on scar tissue.
The Japanese art of tattooing, also known as Irezumi (入れ墨), has evolved since the 17th century from woodblock printing.
With my tattoos inspired by traditional Japanese art and motifs, I aim to create a unique style of Blackwork. In doing so, I draw not only from the works of Hiroshige and Hokusai, but also from Japanese culture and aesthetics in general, as well as the traditional Nō theater.
„Bold will hold“.
Traditional is characterized by bold lines and clearly designed motifs. The aesthetic of this style lies in its "simplicity", making the tattoo appear strong and striking.
Folk is inspired by traditional Scandinavian motifs. The style is reminiscent of fairy tales and legends from the Nordic and Baltic regions and is defined by clear and simple shapes.
Typical tattoo motifs include minimally designed flowers and animals, often arrenged symmetrically.
This style is characterized by intense black areas that often cover large portions of the skin. Heavy Blackwork is ideal for cover-ups, also known as Blackout and create a powerful visual impact.
